The cultural weight of Stokes Croft sits inside Hamilton House at 80 Stokes Croft and the People's Republic gallery on the corner of Hillgrove Street and Jamaica Street. Between them you get studios, rotating shows, murals that change faster than the listings can track, and Lakota putting on club nights while the walls outside keep shifting.
When the Staffordshire Potteries went under, a former bus driver bought the kilns, the factory kit, and the last decorating factory's entire print stock. Now you pick through vintage water-slide transfers and collage them onto your own chinaware, funding the neighbourhood's fine bone china and politics.

Stokes Croft shopping rewards a slow walk down Jamaica Street and the main drag itself: Stokes Croft China turns salvaged transfers and local street art into actual bone china, while That Thing on 45-47 stocks over fifty independent designers out of what used to be Shop Dutty. Buy the plate, you'll regret leaving it.
