The cultural range in Cișmigiu runs from a 14.6-hectare park with rowboats to the Odeon Theatre, whose 300-seat Majestic Hall keeps a stage à l'italienne with a sliding ceiling, one of only a handful in Europe. Macca-Villacrosse Passage splits the difference, a yellow-glassed 1891 arcade where you can sit under hookah smoke and pretend it's still the Belle Époque.
Grigore Cerchez designed this Calea Victoriei building in 1911, and the 300-seat Majestic Hall still runs a stage à l'italienne with a sliding ceiling, one of only a handful in Europe. A permanent company of 35 actors works it. The Giulești railway-worker roots go back to 1946.

Right on the park edge, this bookshop has a strong Romanian literature section and a calm that outlasts whatever's happening outside. One of those places where browsing turns into an hour without you noticing.
