Alternative art space on Soi 17, running since 2008 with over a hundred exhibitions and a mission to push experimental work by both emerging and established artists. There's a cafe inside and a gift shop selling pieces by local artists, all in a relaxed U-shaped gallery you can wander through quietly.
Themed shopping and entertainment complex at the north end of Nimman near Maya Mall, decorated with Japanese lanterns, a replica Shibuya dog statue, and a fake Tokyo Metro entrance. Food vendors, craft beer bars, and a handful of shops make it a good spot to drift through before committing to dinner plans.
Not a cafe. Chiang Mai's most popular nightclub since 1999, with three zones: an outdoor stage for live indie and ska, a main room that shifts from Thai rock bands to EDM DJs, and a weekend lounge spinning hip-hop and drum and bass. Things pick up around 10pm and the crowd skews young and local.
Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) shopping skips the mall logic. The Booksmith inside One Nimman is hand-picked by a former Asia Books MD, while Soi 11 hides Galaxycnx and its wall of Japanese and Korean sneakers you won't see in Bangkok. Rubber Killer's flagship handles the homegrown side: heavyweight tees, loud graphics, made in Chiang Mai.

Independent bookshop in One Nimman, every title handpicked by the owner, a former managing director of Asia Books who founded the shop in 2012. Strongest in art, design, and architecture, with solid fiction and travel sections and a small cafe corner pouring locally sourced coffee.
