The coolest neighborhoods in Palma de Mallorca.

This site exists to give one answer per city, and in Palma de Mallorca that answer is Santa Catalina. But the decision was not automatic. Three other neighborhoods made the shortlist, and each of them wins on at least one count. Here is the ranking, and here is the reasoning.

Santa Catalina The pick

Santa Catalina wins because it works at every hour. Coffee at Orígenes before nine. Vermouth at the market counters before noon. Sneakers at Flip Kicks, cycling kit at Pas Normal Studios, natural wine at Vinito after dark, Nikkei plates at Nagami when you want to spend money. The others can't match that range. El Terreno is being built to order. Sa Gerreria is still finding its shape. La Lonja only shows up after sunset. Santa Catalina grew from the market outward, one shopfront at a time, and people actually live there. That last part carries the verdict. A cool neighborhood without residents is a theme park.

El Terreno

The hill above the port, backed by Bellver forest, and the most interesting construction site in Palma. The Fluxà family, the people behind Camper, hired MVRDV and GRAS Reynés to rebuild Plaza Gomila. Five of seven buildings are done. The old bar Bellver is back with a terrace facing the cathedral. Terreno Club opened in 2024 in a formerly dead legendary space on Joan Miró. It came second because the ambition is real. It stayed second because the energy is top-down. Give the residents five years to mess it up properly and this could take the crown.

Sa Gerreria

The rawest corner of the old town. Small squares like Plaça d'en Coll and Plaça de la Quartera, lanes packed with Senegalese kitchens, vintage racks, and SOMA murals. Tuesday night means Ruta Martiana, a bar crawl that has outlasted every trend, with stops like Bar Flexas and Moltabarra. This is the pick if you rank neighborhoods by texture. The problem is direction. Boutique hotels and short-stay rentals are pushing prices up and old shops out, and La Juanita already closed. Sa Gerreria could become the pick, or it could get sanded down before it gets there.

La Lonja

Gothic stone, the Sa Llotja building on the waterfront, and Carrer dels Apuntadors running late into the night. Ábaco pours cocktails inside a 17th-century mansion filled with fruit and classical music. Forn de Sant Joan has held its corner for over twenty years. It is the best-looking neighborhood on this list and the easiest to love for one evening. That is also the ceiling. La Lonja is a destination, not a place people wake up in. Nothing new is opening, nothing is closing, and cool needs friction. Come at golden hour, stay until 3am, sleep elsewhere.
