Painted across the gable wall at 252 South Bridge Road, this scene pulls from Yip Yew Chong's childhood memories of watching opera with his aunt. Costumed performers share the frame with an Indian rojak vendor and a Chinese ice cream seller. The former accountant painted it as charity work in 2019.
Small independent art space on Kim Tian Road showing rotating exhibitions that lean conceptual and regional. Free entry, usually quiet, and genuinely rewarding if you give it ten unhurried minutes.

Tiong Bahru's shopping is small but deliberate: Cat Socrates pushes local illustrators and stationery worth carrying home, Woods in the Books has held down Yong Siak Street with picture books since 2009, and Ronggeng Records moves vinyl and cassettes out of a market stall, half of it pressed in Southeast Asia.
Part gift shop, part showcase for Singaporean illustrators, stocking local prints, quirky stationery, and tote bags that actually hold up. It's been a Tiong Bahru fixture long enough to feel like it belongs to the neighbourhood.
Inside stall #01-79 at Tiong Bahru Market, former rock musician Shahrem Selamat sells vinyl and cassettes, with roughly half the stock pressed in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore and priced accordingly for their rarity. The $10 bins outside are his own picks, worth flipping through before you brave the crates inside.
Third floor of the School Block, this picture book specialist stocks pop-up editions of The Little Prince, Sempé cartoons, and the old Malaysian Lat comics. Books sit face-out so you can read them cover to cover before deciding. No photos allowed, a sign at the door makes that clear.
