Book at least 6-8 weeks ahead for weekends between May and September, and earlier if your trip overlaps Pride in early August, the Brighton Festival in May, or a Saturday football fixture. Prices roughly double on Friday and Saturday nights year-round. Midweek stays in February, March, or November can be booked a week out without issue.

Smaller guesthouses and B&Bs in the streets around the station usually include a cooked English breakfast in the room rate. Larger chains and boutique properties typically charge 12-18 pounds extra per person, or sell a room-only rate. Given the density of independent cafes within a five-minute walk, skipping the hotel breakfast is often the better call.

Tipping at UK hotels is light. Porters get 1-2 pounds per bag if they carry it to your room. Housekeeping is not routinely tipped, though leaving 2-5 pounds at the end of a multi-night stay is appreciated. Concierge tips are reserved for specific favours like securing a hard-to-get reservation. Service charges on room bills are uncommon outside London.

Locals don't stay in Brighton, but when friends visit they steer them toward North Laine for walkability, Kemptown for quieter streets and sea access, or Hove for families and longer stays. The seafront strip itself is loud on weekends and packed with stag and hen parties. Anything two or three streets back from the promenade is calmer.

North Laine is one of the safer parts of central Brighton. The streets are busy with shoppers until early evening and with bar traffic until around midnight. Standard city precautions apply around the station late at night and along West Street on weekends, where drinking crowds can get rowdy. Solo travellers generally have no issues walking back to accommodation.

Yes. North Laine and the adjacent streets toward the seafront have a strong concentration of independent boutique properties, often converted Regency townhouses with 8-20 rooms. Expect design-led interiors, no lifts, and steep staircases. Rates typically run 140-220 pounds midweek and 200-300 pounds on Saturdays. Book directly with the property for better rates than the aggregator sites.

January and February are cheapest, with midweek rooms in decent boutique properties dropping to 80-110 pounds. November is also quiet apart from bonfire weekend. Avoid early May (festival), early August (Pride), and any weekend with a home football match. Sunday and Monday nights are consistently 30-40 percent cheaper than Fridays and Saturdays across the year.

Standard check-in is 15:00, with checkout at 11:00. Most properties will store luggage from late morning if your room isn't ready. Early check-in before noon usually costs 20-40 pounds when available. If you arrive on a morning train, drop bags at the hotel and head straight into North Laine for coffee and breakfast rather than waiting in the lobby.
