Piazzetta Goliarda Sapienza is a reclaimed square where the neighborhood gathers in the evenings. Piazzetta Goliarda Sapienza, renamed for the writer born here, is where it all converges after dark.
Bellini's namesake opera house, inaugurated in 1890 with a performance of Norma, seating 1,200 beneath Ernesto Bellandi's frescoed ceiling depicting scenes from four Bellini operas. Maria Callas sang here in '51, '52, and '53, and the acoustics remain among the finest anywhere.
