Pilsen The pick
Pilsen won because its cool wasn't installed. Logan Square built its reputation on restaurants. Avondale is building one on chefs. Bridgeport is building one on a bar and a theatre. Pilsen's runs on people who never left, which is a different thing entirely and much harder to fake. The murals went up decades before anyone was photographing them. 606 Records and Semillas share streets with taquerias that were feeding families long before the galleries arrived. That order of arrival decides it. In Logan Square and Avondale, culture followed the money in. In Pilsen, the culture came first and is still fighting to hold the block. When you walk 18th Street, you're inside a neighborhood, not a concept of one. That won it.
