Oberkampf (11th Arrondissement) named the Brooklyn of Paris

August 4, 2026 - Brooklyn Of (brooklynof.com), a travel publication that names the coolest neighborhood in more than 150 cities worldwide, has named Oberkampf (11th Arrondissement) the Brooklyn of Paris.

The "Brooklyn of" a city is a metaphor, of course: shorthand for the coolest neighborhood in town, the one where independent culture, serious coffee, and creative energy define the character. Not the old town, not where the hop-on-hop-off bus goes. Every big enough city has one, and the site names exactly one per city. In many cities the pick is close to consensus, the name locals would give without hesitating. In others it picks a side. Paris's verdict went to Oberkampf (11th Arrondissement) ahead of Belleville (20th Arrondissement), South Pigalle / SoPi (9th Arrondissement) and Ménilmontant (20th Arrondissement), which take the runner-up positions.

"Oberkampf, in the 11th Arrondissement, is our pick for the Brooklyn of Paris. It does not try to impress anyone, which is exactly why it does: sidewalks full of people by nine, cheap natural wine, street art that changes before you can go back for a second look.
