Te Aro The pick
Te Aro won on density. Newtown has the community, Aro Valley has the brewery, Mount Victoria has the view. Te Aro has all of it stacked within a fifteen-minute walk: Unity Books for the readers, Hawthorn Lounge for the cocktail obsessives, Koji and Kisa for dinner, Kowtow for the design crowd. The others each do one thing exceptionally well. Te Aro does a dozen things well at once, and it does them at midnight, in the rain, on a Tuesday. That is the test a Brooklyn has to pass. You never have to leave, and more importantly, you never want to. No other neighborhood in Wellington comes close on that count.
