Corktown The pick
Corktown won because it is still independent at every price point. You can eat at Alpino, a serious restaurant, then get gelato at Momento and a pint at Batch, and none of it feels like a development plan. The retail is the tell. Mama Coo's, Mink, the Detroit Dye House. These are owner-operated, weird in the good way, and they set the tone more than any anchor institution could. Midtown has the museums and now a Target. Corktown has people betting their own money on their own ideas. That is the difference between a district and a neighborhood, and it is why Corktown takes the top spot.
