Fishtown The pick
Fishtown won because it sits at the exact right point on the curve. Northern Liberties already peaked. East Passyunk matured into a dinner destination. Brewerytown is not there yet. Fishtown is the one where the tension is still live, where a Thai restaurant like Kalaya can be nationally serious while the corner bar two doors down has not changed its lightbulbs since the nineties. Harriett's Bookshop, Gilda, Bar Palmina, Next of Kin, all of it packed into a strip you can cover on foot in an afternoon. The neighborhood is still arguing with itself. That argument is what cool feels like, and no other Philly neighborhood is having it this loudly.
