Seven Greek Revival rowhouses from the late 1840s and '50s on Franklin Street, a few blocks south of Jackson Ward, furnished with period antiques, four-poster beds, and floors that announce every step. Poe played in the garden here as a kid, and one of the Langhorne sisters who later became Lady Astor went to school on this very block.

The blocks closest to Broad Street and the downtown side are well-trafficked day and night, with restaurants and bars keeping foot traffic steady until around midnight. Further north toward the interstate gets quieter and more residential. Standard city awareness applies: rideshare after dark if you're walking more than a few blocks, and don't leave anything visible in parked cars.

Richmond runs on the pricier side, and Jackson Ward's boutique hotels reflect that, starting around $180 midweek and climbing past $280 on event weekends. To save, book January or February, when downtown rates often drop 30-40%. A rideshare from the airport takes 20-25 minutes and costs $30-40.

October is the clear pick: highs in the 60s and 70s, low humidity, and fall color along the James River. April and May come close with dogwood and azalea blooms, though you'll deal with more rain. Avoid July and August, when temperatures regularly hit 90F with heavy humidity. Winter stays mild but unpredictable.
