Book 3 to 4 weeks ahead for June through September, when cruise season, conventions, and dry weather push Capitol Hill and downtown rates to their annual peak. Weekends with home Seahawks, Mariners, or Sounders games tighten up, so give those a month. October through April is easier - one or two weeks usually covers it outside major tech conferences.

Seattleites hosting out-of-town guests tend to point them at Capitol Hill for walkability and nightlife, Ballard for a quieter neighborhood feel, or Belltown if they need downtown proximity. Business travelers default to South Lake Union near the tech campuses. Capitol Hill works best if you want to skip rental cars - it connects to downtown and the airport by light rail.

Capitol Hill is generally safe and one of the most foot-trafficked neighborhoods in Seattle after dark. Use normal city awareness around the nightlife corridor on weekend nights, and keep valuables out of parked cars - car prowls are the most common issue in the area. The blocks closer to the light rail station see more late-night activity than the residential streets east.

Yes. Capitol Hill has a small cluster of independent and design-led hotels, mostly converted historic buildings on or near the main commercial spine. Expect 40-80 rooms, on-site bars or restaurants, and rates roughly comparable to downtown four-stars. If you want full-service chains with pools and gyms, you'll do better downtown or in South Lake Union.

Standard US hotel tipping: $2-5 per bag for bellhops, $3-5 per night for housekeeping (left daily, not at checkout, since staff rotates), $1-2 per drink at the hotel bar, and $5-10 for the concierge if they secure a hard reservation. Valet parking is typically $2-5 on retrieval. Cash is preferred over adding it to the folio.

January and February are the cheapest, with rates often 30-40% below summer peak. November and early December are also soft, except around Thanksgiving. The trade-off is weather - expect rain, gray skies, and early sunsets. Capitol Hill stays lively year-round though, since the bars, music venues, and restaurants run on local demand, not tourism.
