Shimokitazawa The pick
Shimokitazawa wins on trajectory. Nakameguro already finished gentrifying, Jimbōchō plays a different sport, and Koenji, the strongest challenger, runs a smaller, older version of the same show. Shimokita still has the full stack working at once: rooms like JazzHaus POSY and Little Soul Cafe putting on music most nights, Disk Union and Upstairs Records keeping vinyl in circulation, coffee that takes itself seriously at Coffea Exlibris without a queue of influencers outside. It draws students, keeps rents survivable, and stays close enough to Shibuya to matter while refusing to act like it. That combination of cheap, loud, and self-sustaining is the whole Brooklyn test. Shimokitazawa passes every part.
