Bywater The pick
Bywater won because it doesn't depend on a single street. Marigny lives and dies with Frenchmen. Mid-City points at the bayou. Bywater spreads out. There's a record shop on one block, a brewery on another, a bookstore, a courtyard wine bar that books serious music, a pizza place that locals defend like family. Pond Coffee in the morning, Parleaux Beer Lab in the afternoon, Bacchanal after dark. You can build a whole day here without repeating a corner. That's the test. A cool strip is a night out. A cool neighborhood is a life. Bywater passes, and nobody else in New Orleans quite does.
